Melfort Campbell, Imes Group

Melfort founded his first business in the oil industry in 1985. Since then he has run, owned
or invested in several specialist engineering businesses in oil and gas, marine, defence and
process industries. Melfort built Imes Group to a £20 million specialist engineering group
operating in the marine environment.
He sold his defence business in 2009 and has since focused most on oil and gas with both
his business interests and a wider industry engagement. Melfort has chaired the CBI
in Scotland and Robert Gordon University’s Board. He co-chairs the Scottish oil and gas
industry leadership group, chairs the Scottish Government Oil and Gas Expert Commission,
as well as being part of the MER UK Forum, the Oil and Gas Technology Centre and ONE Oil
and Gas. This is all with a focus on changing the government’s perspective on the value and
importance of oil and gas to the UK economy.
Melfort also chairs the Robert Gordon University Foundation, is a visiting Professor of
engineering at the University of Strathclyde and has co-chaired The Innovation Scotland
Forum, which is focused on the Scottish Government’s innovation agenda.
